The USDA/ARS Regional Small Grains Genotyping Lab (RSGGL) at Raleigh, NC was established to assist small grains breeding programs in the eastern United States exploit DNA marker technology to develop superior cultivars. Four regional laboratories were established to facilitate application of genomics information and DNA molecular marker information to plant improvement in wheat, barley and oat breeding programs. Funding for the regional labs was obtained through the combined efforts of the National Wheat Improvement Committee, National Oat Improvement Committee, National Barley Improvement Committee, American Malting Barley Association and US Wheat and Barley Scab Initiative.
