RESEARCH

Dr. Milla-Lewis holds a 100% research appointment in the area of turfgrass breeding and genetics. The main goal of the program is to develop warm- and cool-season grass varieties adapted to the transition zone.
Current research activities include:

• Breeding for cold tolerance in warm-season grasses
• Breeding for heat and drought tolerance in cool-season grasses
• Breeding for disease resistance
• Utilization of exotic germplasm
• Mutation breeding
• Application of molecular markers to turfgrass improvement
• QTL mapping
• Molecular taxonomy
