David directs statewide educational programs related to peanut production, integrated pest management, and weed management and coordinates projects and activities with the North Carolina Peanut Growers Association. He conducts applied research in a range of subject matter areas. He is currently managing many of the weed science responsibilities previously under the direction of Drs. John Wilcut, Michael Burton, and Alan York in the Department of Crop Science.
David is the instructor of Peanut Production (CS 063) and Weed Control in Field Crops (CS 052) in the Agricultural Institute curriculum in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Dr. Jordan also co-instructs the graduate level course Cotton, Peanut, and Tobacco Production Systems (CS 590B/795B) with Drs. Edmisten and Fisher and the senior level capstone undergraduate course Soil-Crop Management Systems (SSC/CS 462) with Dr. John Havlin. He is also the instructor for the undergraduate level course Weed Science (CS 414) in fall 2009. He is a guest lecturer in several pest management and agronomy courses as well as Global Sustainable Human Development (MLS 501) and World Population and Food Prospects (STS 323). David also advises graduate students and serves on graduate committees in Departments of Crop Science, Entomology, Horticulture, and Plant Pathology.
David was involved in the USAID Peanut CRSP project Improved Production Efficiency Through Standardized, Integrated, and Enhanced Research and Technology Transfer Approaches (2002-2007) and is currently involved in the project Improved West African Peanut Production for Enhanced Health and Socio-Economic Status Through the Delivery of Research-Based Production System in Ghana (2008-2012). He has been involved with CLUSA (Cooperative League of the United States of America) through the Farmer to Farmer Exchange Program assessing peanut production, pest management, storage, and marketing systems in Mozambique and has been involved in a working group developing a large multi-discipline project in Malawi.
David has been involved in various leadership and service capacities with the American Peanut Research and Education Society, American Society of Agronomy, Conservation Tillage Systems Conference, Crop Protection Association of North Carolina, International Weed Science Society, Pesticide Minor Use and Registration Committee (North Carolina), Pesticide Advisory Committee, Rice Technical Working Group, Southern Weed Science Society, Virginia-Carolina Peanut Advisory Committee, Weed Science Society of America, and Weed Science Society of North Carolina
