Just SOME of what NC State University Crop Scientists DO

North Carolins Crop Science Department Plant Research Developing Aflotoxin Resistant Crops - Dr. Art Weissinger and his team work to produce peanut varieties which are resistant to infection by Aspergillus flavus, a fungus which causes aflatoxin contamination. Cultured peanut tissues are transformed with genes encoding antifungal proteins using microprojectile bombardment, a procedure for delivering DNA directly into plant cells. If resistance can be achieved, severe economic losses caused by contamination with this fungus can be prevented. Read more on his work Improving Agronomic Perfomance

North Carolins Crop Science Department Plant Research Atmosheric Effects of Elevated CO2 on Plant Crops - USDA-ARS Plant Physiologist and Associate Professor of Crop Science Fitz Booker conducts plant growth studies on the effects of UV-B radiation, elevated atmoshperic CO2 and pollutant ozone (O3) at the Plant Science Research Unit. Ozone and Crop Physiology

North Carolins Crop Science Department Plant Research Development of Phyto-Pharmaceutical Crops for North Carolina - North Carolina has a diversity of climates and native plants that make it an ideal location for the development of phyto-pharmaceutical crops. These crops include traditional medicinal plants such as Goldenseal, Black Cohosh, Bloodroot, and Mayapple. Phyto-Pharmaceutical Crops
