Interests include competition and compositional shifts in pasture mixtures under varying grazing intensities, changes in forage nutritive value and quality characteristics from differing plant morphologies and maturities that occur in grazing or when harvested for stored feed. Member of the College Ecology Faculty.

He is the College of Agriculture and Life Science Coordinator for Sustainable Agriculture. and Coordinator for the Farming Systems Research Unit of The Center for Environmental Farming Systems. He has been involved with applied grassland farming research with ruminant animals including caprine silvo-pastoral systems and agricultural systems that integrate crops and livestock. Training, technology transfer and educational programs are designed for advisors, farmers and agribusiness personnel interested in sustainable agriculture principles and practices and those striving to improve pasture and grassland management.
